How to mine solo on Linux, other than with a wallet, preferably with cpuminer-opt?

I've checked "Birty's Complete Guide to Mining Verium". Problem is, no longer contains veriumd, only verium-qt.
This is a pretty bad option for me, as I mine on a headless machine, and verium-qt performance is inferior to cpuminer-opt. Plus, it seems to ignore thread count setting.

So how do I set up cpuminer-opt (or any other Linux command-line miner) for solo mining? There must be a network to connect to, but I cannot find the settings on forums or in the minters' options.

I have the Verium Vault running on a windows machine.
You have to setup the wallet to listen to RPC connections by editing the verium.conf file by adding:
rpcuser=[your username]
rpcpassword=[your password]
rpcallowip=[your local ip(s)/subnet].

You can then use to connect to your wallet using: ./cpuminer -o walletserverip:8332 -O rpcusername:rpcpassword

You can setup veriumd (Verium daemon) on Linux and point the miner to that. This is what I do.

json_rpc_call_failed.retry in 30 seconds.
or can't connect to server or something similar.

btw the wallet isn't updated yet.

Wait for the wallet to be updated and see if the error continues.
